Comox Valley:Central Vancouver Island is home to two communities lying side by side (Courtenay and Comox), sandwiched between impressive mountains and the Strait of Georgia, making it a desirable base for a variety of outdoor activities. In fact, it is one of the few locations where you can ski in the morning and kayak in the afternoon. The Courtenay-Comox area is a gateway to numerous attractions, including Stratchona Park's Forbidden Plateau and several incredible features along the Puntledge and Tsolum rivers – probably the best range of river recreation opportunities on Vancouver Island. Outdoor lovers who live in this area are very lucky people. Kayakers and hikers alike will enjoy the cliffs of Hornby Island and the well-named Sandy Island Provincial Park on the north tip of Denman Island. - Excerpt from The Essential Vancouver Island Outdoor Recreation Guide, by John Kimantas, Whitecap, 2008 |
